Medosweet Farms History
In 1974, the founder of Medosweet Farms, Cliff Flintoff, received the news that low milk production was forcing his employer, Smith Brothers Dairy, to eliminate Cliff's position as a Sales Representative. Rather than be laid off, Cliff elected to lease a truck from Smith Brothers and take on the responsibility of running an independent leased home delivery route for the dairy. Cliff was soon running 3 milk routes, six days per week and he enlisted his families help in everything from bookkeeping to delivery to keep their leased routes running efficiently.
In 1979, Cliff and his wife Carolyn decided to purchase their leased route from the Smith Brothers Dairy and established "C&F Distributors" as an independent milk delivery company. C&F Distributors continued in the home dairy delivery business until 1982 when it was determined that the companies future was in serving and meeting the needs of wholesale and foodservice customers. Based on that decision, Cliff and Carolyn discontinued their home delivery business and focused full time on building wholesale business opportunities for the company. As their wholesale and foodservice business grew, the company began hiring employees other than family members and began purchasing additional trucks to serve their growing dairy distribution business.
In 1995 C&F Distributors purchased the rights to the name of a former long time Tacoma area dairy that was well regarded in the community and re-named their company "Medosweet Farms". The "new" Medosweet Farms has continued its' steady growth and expanded into operating chilled and frozen distribution warehouse facilities in both Kent, Washington and Portland Oregon. Today, Medosweet Farms serves a wide variety of wholesale foodservice customers including espresso shops, bakeries, restaurants, hotels, institutions, and food processing companies. In 2008, Medosweet Farms was named "Washington Family Business of the Year" recognizing the Flintoff families quarter century of commitment to service, quality and innovation as the Pacific Northwest's premier dairy products supplier. |
